Three times since I have Owned my Wolverine 450 (1000 miles..so far) it has left me sitting on the trail. I would start to lose power, due to a lean air-fuel ratio, and Stall. It would restart but die if you give it hardly any throttle.
The Problem:
The vent tube for the carburetor is under the fuel tank, but on top of a rubber shield. Water and Dirt get onto the rubber shield and into your carburetor vent hose.
The Solution:
Remove Carburetor
Disassemble Carburetor
Clean Carburetor
Reassemble Carburetor
Reroute Vent Tube
The Trailside Solution:
1. Remove Seat, Air box Lid, Air Filter
2. Remove your teeshirt
3. Start the Wolverine 450
4. Get it to rev up then plug the air inlet in the air box with your shirt. When it starts to die..pull the shirt out. Do this a few times. This sucks the grit through the carburetor.
This is called "Purging a Carburetor". It creates a high vacuum situation in the carburetor and clears the restriction.
